inhabited by the tribe of Paris to the shelter on the Island of the

The Roman colony which is established on its ruins was prosperous:
it overflowed soon on left bank of the Seine. The francs succeeded
the Romans, gave to the city the name which it has today and made

Little after the revolution of 1848, great work of the baron Haussmann
transformed the city radically. Broad boulevards replaced the medieval
lanes. With the end of the Paris century had become the window of
the Western culture.
It preserved this role until the German occupation of 1940-1944. The
city extended considerably since the war, it is today ready to hold
its row with the heart of plain Europe. Paris is divided into twenty
districts, with fourteen districts equipped with the best sites.
First of all MONTMARTRE with its place of the Hillock, its basilica
of Crowned Curte, its hillock, its moulin-Rouge and its vineyards.
As a second CHAMPS-ELYSEES with his more beautiful avenues, its Triumphal

district of TILERIES, with the arcades of the street of Rivoli,
the garden, the museum, the pyramid of glass of tileries the Louvre
and the Royal Palate. The district of BEAUBOURG with the Pompidou

The district of the MARSH, with its PLACE OF the VOSGES, the Bastille,
the church Paul Saint. The district of the ISLANDS (HOLY LOUIS

the large flower market.
Paris: a modern city.
André Malraux launches since 1962 a programme of restoration
of the decayed districts like that of the Marsh. This policy of
the respect of the inheritance is continued by great work of François
Mitterrand which opens on the future.
The townIndeed if achievements as the large Louvre where the museum
of Orsay facilitate the access to the treasures of the past, this
program includes/understands also futuristic buildings as the
Opera Bastille, the city of sciences,
the national library of Tolbiac, the large Arch of Defense and
the stage of France where Paris turns to the XXI 2nd century.
of Paris has six large stations. The station of LYON which serves
Italy and the south east of France, with TGV, the fastest trains
of world (320 km hour). The station of Austerlitz which joined
Spain and the western south of the country. The station of the
north which joined England by the tunnel, Belgium, and Holland.
The station Lazare Saint which joined the suburbs and Normandy.
